Description

A 33 year old Brora whisky. Bottled by Gordon & MacPhail as part of their Rare Old series. Distilled in 1982 and aged in a Sherry Puncheon cask before being bottled on 28th January 2015. A run of just 365 bottles.

The Brora distillery was built in 1819, it was known as “Clynelish” until the opening of the Clynelish Distillery in 1967, whereupon the name of the original Clynelish distillery was closed for 6 months before reopening in 1969 Brora. In early 1983, production at Brora was stopped and the distillery was closed and dismantled.

On 9 October 2017 Diageo announced that it would re-open the Brora distillery and on 19 May 2021 it was announced the reopening was complete and the first new cask of spirit had been filled.

Colour: Straw.

Nose:
Without Water. Fragrant green apple aromas enhanced with lemon and lime and subtle menthol notes. A sweetness develops with hints of milk chocolate.

Nose with Water. Subtle vanilla with fresh green apple, pear, and orange notes complemented by hints of Parma Violets.

Taste:
Palate without Water. White pepper, ripe banana, blueberry, and cardamom spice flavours are complemented by an underlying peat smoke edge.

Palate with Water Peppery with hints of banana, dark chocolate, and orange zest. An undertone of dried tobacco is present. Body Light to medium.

Finish:
Finish Medium in length, smooth and creamy with traces of smoke. Totally love the saltier signature.
