Description
A 24 year old bottle of Dallas Dhu bottled at cask strength for Diageo’s Rare Malts series – a historic selection of single malt whiskies from operational and lost distilleries that were released by Diageo between 1995 and 2005. This Dallas Dhu was distilled in 1970 before being bottled after 24 years and was one of the earliest Rare Malt releases. The Dallas Dhu Distillery was closed in 1983 and is now a museum. This is a true classic from a long-lost distillery.
Colour: Straw.
Nose:
Chalk, lemon, grass and wee whiffs of chives or even fresh onions. But mind you, almost 61% vol. With water: it’s amazing what water does to it. Not that it changes the profile, but it rebalances everything and well.
Taste:
Neat: Grass, paraffin, lime, sauvignon blanc, pink grapefruits, perhaps kiwis and gooseberries, chalk, lemon, with some nice notes of spices and herbs beyond the sweetness. Some notes of fresh apricot. With water: a little more sweetness, but that is all.
Finish:
Long, very good, with a little more menthol and liquorice, and an earthier aftertaste.
