Description

A 13 year old Glenfiddich whisky. On Christmas 1991, Don Ramsay, the head of Glenfiddich’s coopers, celebrated his 30th anniversary of employment (he started working on December 24, 1961 at the age of 15). On the occasion of the anniversary, Don selected a number of white American oak barrels and prepared them to be filled with fresh distillate. In 2004, the contents of 225 barrels were used for the 1991 distillery Vintage Reserve Don Ramsay edition. Don Ramsay ended his career in 2011, after working for Glenfiddich Distillery for 50 years.

Colour: Pale gold.

Nose:
Whiffs of dandelions, cornflakes, fresh mint leaves, then roasted nuts and overripe apricots. Quite some milk chocolate as well, and finally obvious whiffs of newly sawn oak. Nice nose, honeyed and fruity, extremely expressive. Lots of oranges and lots of flowers.

Taste:
Rather punchy at 40%, with the oak playing the first parts, hints of pencil shavings and strong tea. Gets then fruitier, more on light banana notes and strawberries, and finally quite spicy, all from the oak. A lot of nutmeg and cinnamon and fruity, mostly citrus fruits, oranges, touches of vanilla and well balanced oak wood.

Finish:
Medium long, with added notes of crystallised oranges that go well with the spices.

As with all our older bottles, there may be some slight damage to the labels / box.  Please see the pictures.
