Description
A 26 year old Glenlochy whisky. Bottled at cask strength by Diageo as part of their Rare Malts series – a historic selection of single malt whiskies from operational and lost distilleries that were released by Diageo between 1995 and 2005. This Glenlochy was distilled in 1969, it was then cask aged for 26 years and bottled in 1995. A limited edtion run, this is bottle 282. One of the hardest to get and most expensive of the Rare Malt Series, this Glenlochy was bottled for the South African market.
Glenlochy is actually one of the rarest Single Malt whiskies on the market. The distillery has no official bottlings to speak of. The Glenlochy-Fort William Distillery was founded by David McAndie in 1898. Production started on 4th April 1901, and continued until the onset of the First World War. Production resumed in 1925, only to stop one year later. The distillery lay silent until 1938, when production was re-started, it remained in operation until 1983, when Glenlochy was taken out of service. Sadly the premises were sold to a hotel developer who partly demolished the distillery buildings, apart from the kiln building, which was declared a historic building. The surviving distillery buildings were converted into holiday apartments.
Colour: pale gold.
Nose:
Delightful aroma, just astounding. Meat on the bone, game. It quietens down a notch or two, in fact, it seems to become softer and more mellow.
Taste:
Peach juice with a peppery kick. Firm, powerful. A well-balanced attack gives equal footing to aromas of peat, smoke, spices.
Finish:
Quite rich and lovely smooth texture. Crushed peach stones, ever-so-slightly bitter. Vanilla and pistachio-tainted cream. This is complex and beautiful.
As with all our older bottles, there may be some slight damage to the labels / box. Please see the pictures.
