Description
A 25 year old Glenmorangie whisky. A distillery bottling Limited Edition. Distilled in 1975, it was then aged in bourbon cask, including a period of finishing in air seasoned Tronçais Oak Casks which were previously filled, once only, with Côte de Nuits’ rarest Grand Cru Burgundy before being bottled in 2000. A run of 2000 bottles. This is bottle number 1118. Each one hand numbered and signed by Glenmorangie’s Distillary Manager, Graham Eunson.
Colour: Warm autumnal shades of russet and burgundy.
Nose:
Amazing sweetness, depth and complexity. At full strength, the confectionery sweetness of sugar candy and marzipan stimulates the senses, followed by the richness of cherry brandy and a hint of hazelnuts. With water, there is a burst of juicy ripe soft fruits with peaches, nectarines and Victoria plums, Beneath the fruits, there is a touch of lemon curd and red grape must. In the background, there are just detectable traces of beeswax and linseed oil.
Taste:
Rich, fruity and sweet with a full, warming and tingly mouthfeel. The taste meets all the expectations promised on the nose, with balanced sweetness, fruit and deep vinous notes. Initially, there is a burst of soft fruits and tantalising spices, with peaches, nectarines and almonds followed by cocoa, chocolate and rich wine notes. Later there is the gentlest haze of smoke and the barest hint of sulphur, giving way to grape must.
Finish:
Long and dry, both winey and ‘tingly’ with a definite Burgundy grape must and bitter almond finish.
As with all our older bottles, there may be some slight damage to the labels / box. Please see the pictures.
