Description
A 37 year old Inverleven whisky. Bottled by Chivas Brothers as part of their Deoch an Doras series. A rare official release bottling. Distilled in 1973, it was then aged in a cask before being bottled on 21st February 2011.
Inverleven was a “distillery within a distillery,” in the Lowlands of Scotland, established in 1938 by Hiram Walker & Sons inside the massive Dumbarton grain complex. The Inverleven distillery was mothballed in 1991, and the entire Dumbarton complex closed in 2002, and Inverleven’s buildings were demolished in 2006 to make way for housing.
Colour: pale gold
Nose:
It begins with floral overtones and a distinct minty freshness. With time and a drop of water, it reveals deeper notes of sweet apple compote, cookie dough, vanilla, marzipan, and red grapefruit. Some experts also detect hints of honey, rose hips, and even a touch of olive oil.
Taste:
The entry is mild but quickly develops a bold fruitiness, specifically citrus and grapefruit. This is balanced by a dry, herbal bitterness reminiscent of banana peel, cold espresso, or strong herb bitters. Spicier notes like pepper and ginger also emerge at cask strength.
Finish:
The finish is medium to long and quite rich. It leaves a lingering impression of minty-malty freshness accompanied by earthy notes of wood, almonds, and marzipan.
As with all our older bottles, there may be some slight damage to the labels / box. Â Please see the pictures.
