Description
A 36 year old bottle of Lochside whisky. Bottled at cask strength by Jack Wiebers Whisky World as part of their Castle Collection – Series 6, Limited Christmas Edition. Distilled in 1966 it was then aged in an oak cask, number 3912, before being bottled in November 2002. A run of just 128 bottles.
The Lochside Distillery was originally opened in 1957 by MacNab Distilleries, after being rebuilt from the Deuchars’ Beer Brewery. Lockside was bought in 1972 by a subsidiary of Domecq. Domecq was aquired by Allied Distillers in 1992 and Lockside distillery was closed down right away in 1992. The warehouses were closed five years later in 1997. Permission was not granted for demolition of the distillary until 2004 but just after permission was given in January 2005 Lochside burned down.
Colour: gold.
Nose:
There are citrusy notes, as there’re also some pleasant whiffs of wet gravels at first nosing and then more grassy notes and even a little mustard or horseradish. The citrus wins in the end. With water: yeah, pure, crystal-clean Lochsideness now. The citrusy fighter squadron.
Taste:
(Neat): a creamier, thicker, more candied and spicier version of Lochside. More topical fruits, mangos, passion fruits, oranges as well. Honey as well, ginger. With water: a citrusy sin, a true fruit bomb. It’s also fuller, kind of more satisfying a big Lochside.
Finish:
Long and just as citrusy. More grapefruits than oranges now. A whisky that display 100% of the distillery’s character.
