Description

A 29 year old bottle of Lochside whisky. Bottled at cask strength by The Whisky Agency as part of their Anatomy Collection. Distilled in 1981 it was then aged in an refill Hogshead cask, before being bottled in 2010. A run of just 186 bottles.

The Lochside Distillery was originally opened in 1957 by MacNab Distilleries, after being rebuilt from the Deuchars’ Beer Brewery. Lockside was bought in 1972 by a subsidiary of Domecq. Domecq was aquired by Allied Distillers in 1992 and Lockside distillery was closed down right away in 1992. The warehouses were closed five years later in 1997. Permission was not granted for demolition of the distillary until 2004 but just after permission was given in January 2005 Lochside burned down.

Colour: deep gold/amber.

Nose:
(Neat): A heavy, deeply infused Lockside, with some wood extracts, toffee, strong tea and notes of plum eau de vie. Also some wild notes of fresh mushrooms, moss, earth. Wine vinegar, parsley.

(With water): more grass, more herbs, more mint. Hints of sangria, blood oranges, shalots.

Taste:
(Neat): Lochside’s trademark fruitiness (tangerines, oranges), but it’s coated with some soft spices (a little curry) and quite some kirsch. Slightly hot. Also notes of pipe tobacco, prunes, molasses.

(With water): softer, leathery, slightly cardboardy

Finish:
Medium long, a little dry but clean. Very nice lemony signature, with some pepper.

As with all our older bottles, there may be some slight damage to the labels / box.  Please see the pictures.
