Description

A 27 year old Port Ellen whisky. Bottled at cask strength by The Whiskyman under their “While my whisky gently weeps” series. Distilled in 1983, it was then aged for 27 years, before being bottled in 2011, a run of just 120 bottles. The Port Ellen Distillery was closed and partly demolished in 1983.

Colour: pale gold.

Nose:
Interesting, with many subtleties including some charcoal, bacon, smoked almonds, soot and touches of camphor, the lovely kind of camphor that comes out when peat ages well. Goes on with more citrus fruits and aromatic herbs such as rosemary, before a straighter peat starts to come out but never in an overwhelming way.

Taste:
(neat): Creamy, liquid peat and lemon liqueur. Amazingly straight and ‘chiselled’. Enough said.

Finish:
Everlasting and enduring. This is wonderful proof that Port Ellen can age with extraordinary grace and elegance. It’s a beautiful reminder that even whiskies once considered straightforward material for blends can, with time and patience, transform into something truly exceptional and breathtaking. A perfect illustration of the caterpillar-to-butterfly magic in whisky maturation.

As with all our older bottles, there may be some slight damage to the labels / box.  Please see the pictures.
